Sell Patek Philippe Aquanaut Guide 2026: Real Seller Prices

How to sell a Patek Philippe Aquanaut in 2026. Real seller payouts for 5167, 5168, 5164, 5267, papers math, and the 5 mistakes that cost owners $10K+.

If you own an Aquanaut and you're thinking about selling in 2026, this is the honest version. No Chrono24 fantasy numbers, no "market softness" cop-out, no consignment maybe-someday quotes. Just what the watch actually pays you today, and how not to leave money on the table.

The Aquanaut is not a Nautilus. Prices are lower, buyer pool is smaller, and the reference number matters more than most sellers realize. A 5167A and a 5168G are the same family, but the seller payouts sit $30K to $40K apart. Which one you own decides almost everything about the offer you should be getting.

I've been buying Patek Philippe watches for eight years and paid out over $2 million to sellers. The Aquanaut runs about 20% of our Patek volume. Here's exactly how it prices in September 2026, and how to make sure you get every dollar the watch is actually worth.

Which Aquanaut do you actually own?

Before you can price it, you need to know which one it is. Flip the watch, look between the lugs, and find the reference number. That six-digit code decides the tier.

Time and date, steel (5167A-001): The core Aquanaut, 40mm, black embossed dial, tropical strap. This is what most sellers own. Retail is around $22K but nobody pays retail. Pre-owned market sits much higher.

Time and date, rose gold (5167R): Same case, rose gold, brown dial. Roughly 4x scarcer than the steel. Sells to a smaller pool but the pool pays more.

"Jumbo" white gold (5168G): 42.2mm, blue dial (5168G-001) or khaki (5168G-010). Introduced 2017. Bigger case, gold weight, higher tier entirely.

Travel Time steel (5164A-001): Dual timezone with pushers at 8 and 10 o'clock. Blue dial. Rarer than the 5167A and the added complication holds a premium.

Chronograph steel (5968A): Blue or orange dial. See our 5968A resale value breakdown for the full pricing.

Aquanaut Luce (5267/200A): 35.6mm ladies quartz with diamond bezel. Different market entirely.

Older 5065A/5066A: Discontinued 2007. Slightly smaller case. Vintage-adjacent pricing.

Wrong reference in the WhatsApp message costs you 30 minutes of back-and-forth. Get it right up front.

Real Aquanaut seller prices, September 2026

These are seller payouts. What a serious buyer actually wires you. Not Chrono24 asks. Not auction estimates. Not "consignment could get you." Real money, this month.

  • 5167A-001 steel, full set: $55,000 to $68,000
  • 5167A-001 steel, watch only: $45,000 to $54,000
  • 5167R-001 rose gold, full set: $75,000 to $90,000
  • 5168G-001 blue dial, full set: $85,000 to $102,000
  • 5168G-010 khaki dial, full set: $80,000 to $95,000
  • 5164A-001 Travel Time, full set: $75,000 to $88,000
  • 5267/200A Luce quartz, full set: $32,000 to $42,000
  • 5065/1A older steel, full set: $42,000 to $52,000

The Q1 2026 Aquanaut index posted +3.1%, up +16% year-over-year. Momentum is real but modest. Chrono24 top listings on the 5168G touch $115K to $120K. Nobody is closing there. Add 15 to 25% to a realistic seller payout and you're roughly at the current retail-adjacent asking price.

If the offer you're getting sits at the low end of these ranges with a full set, you're being lowballed. If it's at the mid or high end, that's a serious quote.

The five things that set your Aquanaut price

1. Reference number. Already covered. Biggest single lever. A 5167A and a 5168G differ by $30K+ before any other factor.

2. Condition of the case and bezel. The Aquanaut case has soft brushed and polished transitions on top of the octagonal bezel. Polishing kills that geometry. A polished 5167A drops $6K to $10K in payout, every time. Do not send it to your local jeweler for a "quick freshen up."

3. Strap condition. The tropical rubber strap dries out, cracks, and stretches. Original stretched strap is not a huge deduction (Patek boutique replacement is around $500 for the strap). But missing entirely, or a third-party strap, cuts $1,500 to $3,000 depending on how obvious it is. Keep the original even if you swap it.

4. Full set vs watch only. Full set means original box, inner box, certificate of origin, hang tag, extract of the archives if available, and any service receipts. The premium runs 15 to 25% on the Aquanaut, sometimes higher on the gold references. This is real money. If you have the papers in a drawer, dig them out before you get a quote.

5. Service history. Patek service costs $1,200 to $2,500 depending on the reference. A recent service with an official Patek receipt from Geneva or New York adds real credibility, especially on pieces 8+ years old. An overdue service subtracts, because the buyer prices in the service cost.

5 mistakes Aquanaut sellers keep making

Mistake 1: Polishing before sale. Same story as every high-end Patek. Original finish sells. Polished pieces sell for less. If you think a scratch is "ruining the value," it isn't. Polishing to remove it is.

Mistake 2: Trusting Chrono24 asking prices. Chrono24 shows what dealers hope to get, not what they close at. Real closing prices sit 15 to 25% below the top asks. If a listing shows $110K, actual transactions on that reference are landing in the $88K to $95K range.

Mistake 3: Selling to the first offer without checking a real buyer. Pawn shops and local jewelers offer 30 to 40% below market on Patek because they don't know the buyer network and need huge margins. If a local shop offered you $32K on a 5167A full set, walk. The real number is $55K+.

Mistake 4: Sending blurry photos. Aquanaut authentication is done from photos in the first pass. We need the dial straight-on, the caseback, the crown, the movement if you have a papers photo showing it, and the bezel edge in a clean light. Bad photos delay the quote and can knock the offer conservative.

Mistake 5: Waiting for the 2022 peak to return. Aquanaut prices peaked with the rest of the market in March 2022. The 5167A touched $75K at one point. It corrected. It's now recovering, slowly. If you're waiting for another 40% jump, you're likely waiting 3+ years, and the market may or may not oblige. If you need the liquidity, sell now at the current fair price.

How to actually sell it

Three options, in order of what pays most for the least hassle:

Specialized buyer (what we do). Free appraisal via WhatsApp with photos. Firm offer usually inside a couple of hours. If you accept, we wire same-day, or meet in person in Miami, New York, or Los Angeles, or arrange fully-insured overnight shipping. Zero fees, zero commission. You get the offer you agreed to.

Auction house (Sotheby's, Christie's, Phillips). Only makes sense for the top references (5167R full set with papers, 5168G, gem-set pieces). Estimates can look high, but reserve prices, buyer premium, seller commission, and 4 to 6 month timelines eat the difference. Your net can end up below a firm dealer offer. For a plain 5167A steel, skip auction.

Private sale. Highest theoretical payout, most risk. Payment fraud, wire reversals, "meet in a hotel lobby with $60K cash" scenarios. If you have a trusted collector friend who wants it, fine. Otherwise the risk is not worth the marginal upside.

Quick self-check before you contact a buyer

Have this ready before you send that first WhatsApp:

  1. Reference number and any dial variant code (dial 001, 010, etc.)
  2. Serial number for year of production (usually inside the caseback area or on papers)
  3. Box, papers, hang tag, certificate: what you have and what you don't
  4. Original strap and buckle, or replaced
  5. Any service history with dates and where it was serviced

Five straight photos: dial, caseback, crown side, strap/buckle, and papers if you have them. With those, we quote a firm number the same day.

Bottom line

An Aquanaut in 2026 is a great watch to sell if you own the right reference. The 5167A steel is the volume mover at $55K to $68K full set. The gold pieces pay significantly more. The Luce sits in its own tier. Chrono24 numbers are marketing. Real seller prices are what a specialized buyer wires you today.

Whatever reference you own, don't polish it, keep the papers, and get at least two real offers before you decide. If you want a real number on your Aquanaut, send us photos on WhatsApp: free, fast, and no pressure.
